Asking the big questions about Washington and beyond.
By Catherine Rampell, ColumnistOf all Donald Trump’s recent hostile takeovers, perhaps the most perplexing was the president’s decision to seize control of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, one of the country’s prominent cultural institutions.
Trump replaced the Board of Trustees, which then, on Wednesday, named him as chairman of the board. Trump also appointed his former intelligence adviser, Ric Grenell, as interim executive director.
But why was this institution even on Trump’s radar? What kind of changes should we expect in Kennedy Center programming?
(Scott Baio as Lear? Roseanne Barr as Grizabella?)
And what might this portend about the administration’s meddling in the arts world more broadly? I’m joined by my colleagues Marc Fisher and Carolina A. Miranda to discuss.
