The โ€œPuerto Rico x Bad Bunny: Beats & Historyโ€ program covers the superstar singerโ€™s collaborative work with Professor Jorell Melรฉndez-Badillo, the Midwest-based author of โ€œPuerto Rico: A National History.โ€ Here an audience listens to the program in October at the Harold Washington Library Center in Chicagoโ€™s Loop.

More than 300 people have attended the virtual and in-person events at various Chicago Public Library branches, with folks tuning in from as far as New Jersey and Florida.

In the library program, Colรณn breaks down Puerto Ricoโ€™s long history of resistance to a soundtrack of songs from Bad Bunnyโ€™s โ€œDeBร TiRAR MรกS FOToSโ€ alongside musical movements that predate the singer.

The program incorporates the work of historian Jorell Melรฉndez-Badillo, a professor at the University of Wisconsinโ€“Madison and author of โ€œPuerto Rico: A National History.โ€

Melรฉndez-Badillo worked closely with Bad Bunny to create text-based music videos for each of the 17 tracks on โ€œDeBร TiRAR MรกS FOToS.โ€ The professorโ€™s notes, written in Spanish only, detail the work and lives of several Puerto Rican individuals and important social justice movements in the archipelagoโ€™s history.
