Seeing Things – Trump is Not Kidding – Liza Donnelly – March 30, 2025

I love birds, have been an amateur bird watcher most of my life. This cartoon started this way: I wanted to draw a farm fence. Then I put a bird on one post and wondered what else to include. Then I added another bird and then another, and then their thought balloons came to mind. I have watched seagulls fight over the pilings in the NJ bay during the summer—and they literally do battle each other for certain spots.

This drawing for me also represents the rather sinister attitude of the Trump administration right now.

I was not going to write a lot about politics today, but a headline just came in the NY Times that I can’t ignore. It’s one that I predicted back when Trump was running for president, the idea that if we elect him, it will not be for just one term. He will try to find a way to stay in power.

Trump says he’s serious about the idea of a third term as president.

He said in an interview today on meet the Press, that “a lot of people want me to do it.” It’s counter to the 22nd Amendment, which begins, “No person shall be elected to the office of the president more than twice.”

“A lot of people” is just crazy talk. We will have to stop him.

In the spirit of stopping him, there is an interview on The New Yorker Radio Hour with Senator Chris Murphy, one of the leading members of our governent currently loudly fighting Trump. I haven’t finished listening yet, but I highly recommend it.
